The Story behind Publishing House Hugh Vanner

Publishing House Hugh Vanner is an Educational Publishing House. The company develops teaching materials for children and adults.

As a teacher I know from my own experience how learning can be a pleasant and valuable activity. In a challenging learning environment with the shortest possible instruction, children as well as adults want to keep learning.

All the teaching-materials offered have been developed with this idea in mind. As a user you have to get the urge to get started and be challenged to continue. Learning is fun!!

Right now, everything in my business revolves around Music Education. Myself and many others make music for their own pleasure. Whatever instrument you play, you need a certain knowledge of music theory in order to develop further. In the TextBooks-serie ‘Scales & Thirds,’ Root-3-5-7, Relative Major / Minor, Key Related Chords, Roman Numerals ... the principles of music theory are mapped out in a well-arranged manner.

Working with: 'Harmonic Landscapes' is the practical part. This mainly involves being creative on your instrument (Learn2Improvise). For instruments with different tunings (C-Bb-Eb instrument), short progressions are practiced in the different Textbooks. Volume 1 begins with 4-measure exercises. In the following parts (Volumes) these will be interspersed more and more with music forms with 8-12 and 16 measures.

You can hear my Improvisations on the Example-Tracks. Usually I alternate an A and B part in the music. In the A section I play an exercise three times, once on my saxophone, followed by my guitar and finally together. I have noted my examples in the accompanying Textbooks.

With the Instrumental-Tracks you can independently imitate my examples.

You can also develop your own ideas. In the separate Groove-Tracks you play through a certain part of the 'Harmonic-Landscape' repeatedly (A or B part). In the (printable) Notebook-series you can write down your own music. It gives insight to do this. You can see which tones you have chosen in the landscape and which you have skipped. For example, you could start in a different tone and choose a different 'Route'... Do you dare to 'get lost' and yet 'come back home’ …??

The Basic Piano Chords-series is intended for creating 'Harmonic Landscapes' yourself. It can be particularly stimulating to do so. You experience even more strongly how chords give color to a ‘Landscape’. You can come a long way with Triads and their Inversions. For additional effects, you can play Seventh Chords. They bring even more tension to the music.

In order to be able to quickly access your teaching materials, I have opted for Digital Files. They can be viewed and/or listened to on almost any phone, tablet or PC.
